Popular Today show anchor Hoda Kotb says she’s single and ready to get back into the dating scene. The 48-year-old, who most recently dated a lawyer for two years, is implementing one of the most powerful tools a successful dater can have — a positive attitude. Kotb recently told People magazine that she is excited about the future, “I heard Anderson Cooper’s mom say this, and I’ll never forget it: ‘I always believe my next great love is around the corner.’ And I tell you, when you think about that – there’s something coming around … I’ve just started dating again, and it’s really been great.”
So could it be that if you have the right attitude, love will find it’s way to you? It’s certainly a good place to start.
Here are a few things you can start saying to yourself to really improve your chances of finding love:
1. I am worthy of love. Loving yourself is the most important step in your quest to find lasting love. You must feel comfortable in your own skin before you can truly let someone in. Focusing on yourself and building a relationship with you is really the only place to start. Also, it’s the one relationship where you get to be 100% in control!
Take time to really appreciate yourself and get into action in the self-love department. (Yes ladies, self-love is more than treating yourself to a mani/pedi or a massage!) Write down five things you appreciate about yourself every day for 10 days. Indulge in silence with yourself. Notice the chatter and take stock of your inner dialogue.
2. I will stop telling myself I’m not thin enough, not funny enough, or any of the other “nots” that plague my thoughts when I look in the mirror. I will start being all the things I strive to be, to be the best version of me I can be.
Remember, you are ALWAYS and in all ways better than you think you are. And since we are and always will be our own biggest critics, managing your mindset and internal dialogue is a must-have skill to ensure the vibes you put out in the dating pool are authentically positive. Continually attacking ourselves in the hopes that we make improvements will only lead to the breakdown of the self. It’s okay if you think you might want to lose ten pounds or make more money. It’s perfectly healthy to have goals. That said, make sure you look at it as an improvement on something good that’s already there rather than starting from nothing.
3. I am at peace being alone, AND my intention is to be in a healthy, fulfilling relationship. And, I easily and effortlessly give up my idea of the perfect timeline. If you feel yourself thinking things such as “I’m going to be alone forever” or “I just can’t take being single anymore” — or if you’re on the opposite end of the spectrum with thoughts such as “I don’t need no stinkin’ man!”, the first step on the journey to finding love is to readjust that thinking.
If you think that your attitude won’t leak into all your dates and interactions with men, you are incorrect. Projecting the energy of someone who has given up on love will absolutely take up any space for a worthy man to enter your life. Plus, having that underlying belief will scream “Debbie Downer” and no one, man or woman, wants to spend time with a woman who can’t access her joy. If you cultivate a positive attitude, project confidence in your ability to be alone, have self- respect and dignity, plus exude an overall joyful essence, you will most assuredly achieve your relationship goals in a more healthful and enjoyable way.
Love yourself, love your life, and look forward to meeting a person worthy of your love. Your attitude will make a difference in the energy you attract into your space; be positive, and it will be positive too.
